Why I’m Bringing Medium Format Digital to Wedding Photography
I often get asked by couples and fellow creatives, "Do you shoot film?" My answer is usually a quick no, but I always follow it up by saying that I shoot something even better for the way I work. While I have deep respect for the film aesthetic, I have recently moved toward incorporating medium format digital photography into my workflow with the Fujifilm GFX 100 II. To be honest, I don't know many other peers in the industry who are lugging a medium format system around on a wedding day, but for me, the difference in the final product is worth every bit of extra effort. This shift represents a commitment to delivering images to my clients across the Philadelphia region that feel less like standard digital files and more like family heirlooms. The larger sensor size allows for a depth of field and a transition between light and shadow that standard cameras simply can't replicate. When photographing vibrant South Asian celebrations or intimate multicultural ceremonies at local venues, this technology preserves every intricate detail of the attire and the genuine expressions of family members with staggering clarity.
While I love tech, I am the first person to tell you that gear isn't everything. Even with almost 15 years of experience behind the camera, I believe it is so important to keep pushing forward and finding that new spark. It is easy to get comfortable or stagnant in this industry, but I am always looking for ways to grow and refine my craft. At the end of the day, this change is really about getting back to the feeling that got me into photography in the first place. Using this system is honestly just more fun, and that joy translates into the work I do for you. On a wedding day, things can get pretty chaotic, but this camera naturally forces me to slow down. It encourages me to shoot with a real sense of intention and thought rather than just snapping away. This deliberate pace ensures that every shutter click is a conscious choice made to honor your specific story. Whether we are taking portraits against the iconic Philadelphia skyline or documenting a quiet exchange of vows, the results feel sophisticated and timeless. My goal is to ensure that your wedding photos remain as vivid as the day they were taken, and using world-class equipment like the Fujifilm is a vital part of making that a reality for every couple I serve.
I’d love to hear more about what you have planned for your big day. If you’re looking for someone who values intention over a high volume of snapshots and wants to ensure every detail of your celebration is captured with care, let's connect. I’m always down to chat about your wedding vision, your story, and how we can make these medium format memories a reality for you. Feel free to reach out through my contact page, and we can get the ball rolling.
